How to respond to Las Vegas:

For the victims and survivors of gun violence in Las Vegas, our thoughts and prayers are important, but they are not enough.

Last year, I proposed a ban on the sale of assault-style weapons and high capacity magazines in Washington state. Politicians in both parties refused to take a vote on this important issue. But I promise to keep proposing the legislation until it passes.

This is what we need – a real response to these kind of tragedies. Action, not words.

There is, on average, more than one mass shooting in the United States every day, in which at least four people are killed or injured. We can reduce this number with commonsense gun violence prevention measures. We know Washington voters agree – they’ve passed multiple laws to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.

The best way that we can respond to the violence in Las Vegas is by holding politicians accountable for their inaction.
